Finite group characters on free resolutions

چکیده
Under reasonable assumptions, a group action on module extends to the minimal free resolutions of module. Explicit descriptions these actions can lead better understanding by providing, for example, convenient expressions their differentials or alternative characterizations Betti numbers. This article introduces an algorithm computing characters finite groups acting finitely generated graded modules over polynomial rings.

Finite Free Resolutions and 1-Skeletons of Simplicial Complexes
A technique of minimal free resolutions of Stanley–Reisner rings enables us to show the following two results: (1) The 1-skeleton of a simplicial (d − 1)-sphere is d-connected, which was first proved by Barnette; (2) The comparability graph of a non-planar distributive lattice of rank d − 1 is d-connected.
متن کاملFinite Free Entropy and Free Group Factors
We show the existence of noncommutative random variables with finite free entropy but which do not generate a free group factor. In particular, this gives an example of variables X1, . . . , Xn such that δ(X1, . . . , Xn) = n while W ∗(X1, . . . , Xn) ≇ L(Fn).

Holroyd, F.C., Reconstructing finite group actions and characters from subgroup information, Discrete Mathematics 110 (1992) 283-287. A finite group G is said to be action reconstructible if, for any action of G on a finite set, the numbers of orbits under restriction to each subgroup always give enough information to reconstruct the action up to equivalence. G is character reconstructible if, ...
متن کاملInfinite Graded Free Resolutions
The idea of associating a free resolution to a finitely generated module was introduced in two famous papers by Hilbert in 1890 [Hi1] and 1893 [Hi2]. He proved Hilbert’s Syzygy Theorem 4.9, which says that the minimal free resolution of every finitely generated graded module over a polynomial ring is finite. Since then, there has been a lot of progress on the structure and properties of finite ...
متن کاملOn Finite Groups and Their Characters
The idea of a presidential address seems to require a lecture delivered in the most refined and dignified scientific atmosphere yet understandable to the layman, a lecture which treats a difficult field of mathematics in such a complete manner that the audience has the excitement, the aesthetic enjoyment of seeing a mystery resolved, perhaps only with the slightly bitter feeling, of asking afte...
